Poetics of Pandiculation
new round of introductory Committed To Heart, Committed To Memory with Clinical Somatics teacher Gena Rho
You memoriters,
As long as I have been teaching this introductory course of "Committed To Heart, Committed To Memory" I have had a sense that the practice of taking in poems in the way that I am accustomed to showing and sharing had a sort of kinship with physical movement somehow. If you have taken the introductory course with me you will know that I suggest walking and moving your hands in different ways as some way to be in relationship with words and phrases and textures and sounds of poems differently. I have talked with folks and friends over the few years of this poetic venture and practice about different ways these two - movement and poetry - could possibly coordinate and open up new horizons.
And now I am so thrilled to share that this is happening online!
Poetics of Pandiculation with Matthew Stillman and Gena Rho
If you have taken the introductory course and have wanted to share it with folks ...this is a chance to share it (please do!). Same poems but with somatic raveling laced in. And if you have been waiting to take the introductory course of Committed to Heart, Committed To Memory this is the only one in the near future and it is a very cool way to engage and take this on!
I can't say enough about my co-shepherd Gena Rho, who is a teacher and a practitioner of the movement and nervous system work of Clinical Somatics and the work of Thomas Hanna. There is lots to say about this practice but suffice to say that this simple and non-choreographed approach to slowly contracting and relaxing opposing muscle groups to de-pattern habitual muscular stresses has been so relevant to me and my body and I thank Gena all the time for what she has invited me to be in proximity with. She and I see how these two ways of investigating presence and listening are worth experimenting with together. Join us!
So - please come. Please tell your friends in person or via social media or smoke signal to come and engage with Poetics of Pandiculation
